Rachel Kaprielian is the Region I (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont) Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Most recently, she served as the Secretary of the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. Prior to that, she was Registrar of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles. She also served in the State Legislature as representative for the 29th Middlesex District for 14 years. Kaprielian was elected to the House in 1994 at the age of 26, having served two terms as a councilor-at-large in her hometown of Watertown. Her leadership has been recognized in a number of areas, including tobacco cessation and prevention policies, early intervention and care for children, and various human services initiatives, as well as job training and education measures. She received her B.A. from The College of Holy Cross, her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School, and her Master in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
She serves on the boards of various community and civic organizations, including Mt. Auburn Hospital, the Watertown Boys and Girls Club, Watertown Education Foundation, Tufts Health Plan, and Springwell Elder Services.
