This series, that was a joint production of the Ruderman Family Foundation, Nawi pro, KAN, the Gesher multicultural film found, the Jewish Agency and other organizations, features Guri on his funny journey across the United States as he meets and experiences diverse American Jewish Communities. The show accompanies him on the visits that open his eyes to the delicate seams of the relationship between Israelis and American Jewry.

The Ruderman Program for American Jewish Studies at Haifa University is the first and only master’s program of its kind in Israel. Outstanding students and future leaders in Israel embark on a one year program which includes a ten-day educational tour in the US, surveying the history and present-day character of the American Jewish community. The program promotes ongoing academic research in Israel on the topics of Jewish-American life, American society and the lasting and vital bond between American Jews, the State of Israel and Israeli society. Each year, the program translates a book about American-Jewish history into Hebrew and publishes it for an Israeli audience, holds an annual national symposium for researchers in the field and launches innovative initiatives such as an exhibition celebrating 100 years of contribution by the American Jewish community to Israel.

• 248 Community Action Network, a partnership program with the Jewish Agency for Israel, aims to develop a network of overseas Jewish and Israeli professionals who will learn about each other’s realities, explore issues that Jewish and Israeli communities are wrestling with, and devise community-based initiatives that will address some of these challenges. The program’s name reflects the 248 positive commandments in the Torah and expresses the result of meaningful engagement which increases and multiplies.
• The Returning Shlichim Network
  In light of the growing challenges between global Jewry and Israel, The Jewish Agency for Israel and the Ruderman Family Foundation launched an initiative that trained former Jewish Agency shlichim (Israeli emissaries), after returning from Jewish communities around the world, to connect Israelis to the Diaspora.

  On college campuses, some twenty returning shlichim received professional guidance and financial assistance to promote projects that deal with strengthening connections and deepening Israelis’ understanding of Diaspora Jews in general, and the American Jewish community overall. Others, who are no longer students, had the opportunity to receive micro-grants to advance projects connecting their surroundings with the American Jewish community. The United States is home to the largest Jewish community outside of Israel, with around eight million members.

The goal of the research program is to increase awareness among Israeli security and foreign affairs policy-shapers regarding the American Jewish community’s contributions to Israel’s national security. INSS researchers disseminate policy recommendations to decision-makers through presentations to the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, internal INSS security forums and memoranda, opinion pieces and editorials, periodical articles, media coverage and workshops with alumni of Ruderman programs.

The partnership between the Ruderman Family Foundation and Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) produces programs that provide educational experiences and knowledge tools for Israeli leaders and a critical mass of Israeli citizens to learn about the American Jewish community. Two initiatives led by the partnership include an inaugural Diplomatic Correspondents Bureau mission to New York and Washington, D.C., and the publication of the first and only “Directory of the Organized American Jewish Community” in Hebrew.
