Colleges and universities across the United States have policies addressing student mental health needs that are at odds with federal law. A new article published in Psychiatric Services in Advance focuses on a recent lawsuit against Yale University and how this brought to light several problematic policies and practices related to student mental health needs and medical leave. The article describes how the lawsuit led to much-needed policy reform and suggests that this example should be used to address problematic policies across universities.
